Best media for 404 and xp3

i'm going to need to change out my media on my filters soon so i'm looking to see what ever is best for them......right now i just got whatever they came with in them.....also is there a site where you can buy the stuff in bulk instead of those little packs

I use Seachem's De-Nitrate in all my XP3's.

don't know where.. i just buy them online. but i think you can get those large packs online also. and just buy those small bags to fill them up.

Don't waste your money on that stuff. just go to homedepot and get a bag of lava rock. only switch one one media basket at a time because you don't want to throw your tank into a cycle.
Lava rock is what all those little packaged bio-media bags are trying to replicate.

just be sure to rinse it first. a 40 lb bag will run you 5 bucks. you will have enough to fill 10 cans.
