What is the best media to use for the AC110.

Get rid of the carbon that comes with the filter and add another sponge.

+1...another option which i use in all of my ACs - Blue pad on bottom, sponge, some poly or felt pad and then a bag of matrix. Besides their overall performance, with the AC filters you can add just about any type of media to fit your needs...

according to my research- it's poret foam, pond matrix, and alfa grog. and I've bought all three.
I just haven't used any of them yet.

I've had great results with using the foam block then filling the rest of the space with a net bag of Eheim SubstratPro, used two like that on a very heavly stocked 45-gallon about a year ago and it worked great.

I used the sponge that came with it and a bag of biomax for oh about 8 years straight. Occasionally rinsing out the sponge.

if you get rid of the carbon and go EITHER ex. sponge or biomax youll be golden

I ran the sponge, carbon bags that I refill every 60-90 days, and biomax rings. Rinse monthly and replace every 3 months or so?
