Best media

I wanted to know what's the best media for a canister filter I am using bio balls and ceramic rings about 100 of each in the own trays. Anything better. Thanks

I use seachem bio max because it's easily available, but check out pondguru on YouTube. He's gotta great video explaining filter media and how to properly set up a canister filter. Really helped me out

Kinda like asking what the best car is =P

I prefer matrix myself, cheap for what you get and never had bio load issues when using it. Also have some eheim media in canisters and I dont notice the difference.

bio balls are best used in a tickle filter or to remove big particles from the water pending the fish.

Noodles are ok but I understand you are suppose to change them every 6 months or something + for the price of noodles down here its almost cheaper to buy matrix xD

I would personally, sure they will work but theres much better options for submersible media.

I use lava rock.

I use pond matrix, bio max, ceramic rings, anything really. Anything with lots of surface area really. They all work well.

I use seachem pond matrix, it's cost effective and it does the job. Been using it for years.

I fill the majority of my canisters with efi-mech and top them off with Dupla Minikaskade. Back in the day Eheim did not have all of these new various substrates and efi-mech was sold as bio/mechanical. I had to order my later Dupla products from overseas since they don't carry them in the states anymore.
