IN A PLACE
I just set up a 60g wet/dry to my 375g tank. I am using a single 2" overflow with a rio 32hf pump. The overflow is giving off thunderous burps every few minutes and I wish to silence it. There isn't enough room in the prefilter box to create the "herbie" style silencer method (no room for another bulkhead).
Also, the durso style probably won't fit either due to the return plumbing being in the way.

This leaves me with the stockman or hofer gurgle buster silencer. I haven't seen anyone using these on 2" pipes. Will they still work or do they hit a critical mass of some sorts as pipe diameter increases?

Both the stockman and hofer designs will work but are not going to be as quiet as the herbie style overflow. I find that you will be performing more maintenance on the stockman and hofer more than would be on the herbie. Some have had success using a larger diameter pipe around your existing overflow to help quiet it down some.

I filled my overflow with bio balls and then put a glass cover on it. Between the glass cover and the top of the tank I put down some insulation foam tape. I ended up using the same tape on all the top openings and complete silence from the over flow. Now I’m working on the pump hum I never knew about lol

Lets see a crappy cell phone pic of the actual cell phone, not the sump. I have dual 2" in my setup, and they are near silent. The pump is the loud part in my system.

I'm not sure what a pic of the cell phone will help:ROFL:
I did take more, even crappier, pics of the 2" vinyl tubing run...

Also, I put a modified hofer gurgle buster on the top of the intake tube and the thunderous flushing has stopped. Still sounds like running water though...
