An island somewhere......
I'm running a 7" filter sock on my tank and it seems to clog up rather quickly. I have tried both 200 and 100 micron and it'll clog up within a week. I typically take them out, rinse them off with a hose to get all the stuff out and replace it with a different sock. Any secret methods to get the sock clear of all the debri? It has a hard plastic ring otherwise I'd throw them in the washer. Any input is appreciated.

I am thinking about doing socks on my sump but was told that my heavy bioload fish will clog it too fast. Would like to know a good cleaning method myself, If I do go with them.

CDC, that's what I do but I don't think it gets all the particles out which in turn causes it to clog just as fast. I've been told to just throw it in the washer even with the plastic ring, I'm sure it cuts down the lifespan of the sock filter but may be worth it.

I put mine in the washer with a little bleach. They come out just like new.

+1 washing machine. great for filter sponges too. I dont use bleach though. Not a bad idea for socks or micron pads, not for sponges though.

I use washing machine, just make sure to clean the tub first to remove any detergent from the last wash before putting in the socks.

I normally just cram them to the bottom of the sock drawer...

:P

Good thread, been thinking about running a 100 micron.

just buy new ones to use eevry time. Dont be cheap.
