Hi,

I currently have an oscar, GT, JD, firemouth, convict, and pleco in a 42 gallon. Largest is the oscar at 4", the rest about 3". I've had this setup for just over a month, but based on what I've been reading, the tank's too small. I do weekly water changes and there's not much aggression (GT chases the JD around sometimes), but I'd like to provide an optimal environment for my pets.

So I've ordered a 100 gallon that will arrive in 2 weeks.

Do you think I can keep all of these fish in the larger tank, or should I get rid of a few? If I just kept the oscar and GT, what else would work nicely (good color and charisma).

I won't have this tank forever, as I'm living overseas on a 2-year contract. During my time here, I'd just like to enjoy a nice display with some charismatic fish.

Here's a shot of the GT. Thanks in advance for ideas.

Most people would tell you to keep the Oscar and either the GT or JD.....but if it was me...I'd keep all three of them. The 100 gallon should be able to handle the bioload of those three, plus i'm assuming you'll have excellent filtration and water maintenance......

If the 3 fish get along, it's great!

GT's look beautiful in a tank to show off....but then again a nice big guapote-looking JD would be great also!

It'll work in a 100 gallon as long as they all get along.

Yeah it will be fine, just have lots of decor to keep aggression down.

no reason why it shouldn't work. 100gal is enough space and if you do weekly water changes your fish's health will be great. none of the fish you named are to to aggressive. its not like your trying to cram a dovii in there. if they are all growing up togeather like this you should have no prob.

When they all hit full size you will more then likely have problems. Oscars are big pussies and unless you have a mild tempered GT and JD your oscar will one day be harrassed possibly to death. I have a friend that has a 7"Tiger Oscar, 5"Convict,6" JD and 7" GT.....and they are in a 120gallon and he's already having major issues with the GT. I think Gt's do best as solitary so they don't get nipped up and more often then not they become too aggressive for that small of a tank having so many tankmates. If you want to keep what you have I suggest getting at least a 120 if you wan't to have a chance of things working out long term..............

I've never had a problem with a JD and Oscar once the Oscar outgrows the JD....but damn! Those GT's!!! They seem like they naturally HATE oscars!

My 10.5" Oscar stands up to any other fish including Flowerhorns etc and it does a great job defending itself and fighting back.....but it's scared of a 5" Gold Saum that has decided to claim the tank. The Oscar never even attempted to fight the GT.....it just fled automatically once the GT started flaring! And the GT bites it all over the tank....one big slam is all it would take for the Oscar to put the GT in his place....but the Oscar is too wuss against the GT...I had to get remove the GT....

Thanks for the replies. Well, I just came back from 2 days overseas to find my Green Terror half eaten. Judging by the gashes on my Oscar, it must have been quite a battle. Bummer.

Really love GT's, but that damned agression! Might go with the Oscar, JD, and one other. Mebbee clear out the lot and go with a Flowerhorn or arowana or sumthin'.

Will send off some pix when the new tank's set up.
