I was looking into getting my Flowerhorn Hikari Cichlid Bio-Gold+ supplemented with NLS Algaemax, but then I realized $30 per 6 months is a LOT to be spending on food for just a single fish.

Is there a high-quality pellet that has plant matter as one of the top 3-4 ingredients so that I don't need to buy "veggie supplements"? But not at the very top because I assume Flowerhorns still want mostly meat.

...I don't think you're going to find anything that's less than $5 a month?

Hikari is garbage IMO. I would never feed it to any of my fish. NLS and Northfin are my go-to brands.

Your standard NLS pellets should do you fine. They have both the meaty bits and the veggies. Just get the smallest available amounts as your fish grows till it hits adult size. Then get one of these.

And freeze most of it with just a portion of it in a daily use container.

Standard NLS formula

I figured at the rate I feed my 12in Amphilophus Saggitae, that big container would last 5 to 6 years or there abouts. So about $10 bucks a year for feeding at that points.
