Never actually ordered anything living via the internet... what is it like? Is it a difficult proposition with plants like it is with fish???
One of the better wholesalers is Florida Aquatics Nursery. Perhaps you can get your LFS to place an order for you. Baylees Fishes on Aquabid used to have really nice plants. He isn't on there very often lately due to health reasons. Lots of other places don't ship a lot of plants in the winter due to the cold temperatures.
I will go talk to my LFS guy he is pretty good. They typically don't have any plants I either don't already have or want. I'll go pick his mind tonight or tomorrow.
The most common place to find good or rare plants are in the forums. Like aquariacentral.com or plantedtank.net. Best prices.

It's been over a year but if I recall I did 2nd day through UPS and they came in an envelope w/ the plants in bags with enough water to keep them wet.
Bottom line is they were alive and healthy.
You wouldn't want them dropped off on your porch all day in the winter, but it's nothing fragile like shipping fish....
Maybe try a first round with some inexpensive plants to see how it goes?

This is encouraging. I'll see if I can get them delivered when my roommate is home or to my mom while I'm at work.
I use PlantedTank and AquaticPlantCentral. Check both of their Buy/sell/swap sections. Their members sell the widest variety of plants for the cheapest prices that I have found. You may have to keep checking if your looking for something in particular but it is sure to become available eventually.
