I have heard that oscars need vitamin C in their diet to keep them healthy...is this true? if so, what would be a good food source? if anyone feeds their oscars fruits and veggies, i'd like to know which ones are best for the fish. also, I have heard that too much protein causes digestive problems for the fish- I'd like to know how to avoid this situation because most fish foods have a very high amount of protein. any help? :D

Crickets that are eating oranges are a good start to bumping up vitamin C if your Oscar starts showing HITH. Otherwise, Massivore, NLS and Omega One are among the better pellets. And algae wafers are usually accepted as well. Earthworms and mealworms, etc. are also a great treat along with the occasional frog or something fun like that. Bits of fish are good, too. Total omnivore all the way. Don't stress about vitamins too much unless your Oscar is very inbred and weak.

Well my oscar is a beast and I love him to death, I just want to make sure I am going about feeding him correctly. His diet currently consists of omega one, hikari pellets, and i feed him big bloodworm cubes as a treat. I didnt realize that a lack of vitamin c would show like that so that definitely makes me feel better! healthy and crazy as usual =)

I've use Hikari Cichlid Gold, and Cichlid Staple. I buy the big bag of each and mix them together. Haven't had any issues.

BUT, I did get a sample of Massivore Delight that I have been feeding to my Marmokrebs and am going to be adding that to the next mix.

how much do you guys feed per day? i love hikari cichlid gold, and nobody has told me they've ever had a problem with it besides a few complaints about how it mucks up their water. but i feel like if you're a vigilant enough aquarist, you could keep practically anything and feed them anything. to an extent of course..

I used to feed mine Hikari cichlid gold/bio-gold+ and mixed live foods... like crickets, roaches, ghost shrimp, baby crayfish, etc. They grew about 1" a month, no health issues.

use shrimp, it will make the color become more out / bright
