Hi all can someone give me some ideas for a good pet type cichlid that's good for my tank size (42 x 17w x 30h inches ) someone offered me a pair of polleni but I know my tank isn't big enough. If some has any other ideas of a decent size feature fish as any tank mates it runs on a big ass external filter if that helps

That tank size would be a perfect home for most medium size cichlids. Oscars are very popular for their personality. Really I could like 100 good pets for that size tank, but im too lazy. At the top of my list for personable cichlids would be oscars, midas, green terror, and tilapia buttikoferi

Maybe not ideal, but not too far off. Plenty of people keep them and other fish in a 75 or 90g tanks. Yours is only 6"shorter but quite a bit taller. Good friend of mine had 2 in an odd shaped 36x18x36 tank and they were perfectly happy for over 10 years

polleni will be fine in there in my opinion, just keep ontop of your water changes or set up a drip system... the males max out at 10 inch usually? i had a pollenii a while back and they are very oscar like plus you will shift any fry easily to lfs and they will pay for their own larger tank in time!

no not really if they are breeding anything will be at risk or a risk to the eggs and fry... one of the greatest things you do in the hobby is breed your fish, great fun.
