:)Hey everyone!
I have a standard 125 that I want to use for a single serrasalmus piranha. I would rather steer clear of a rhom because of their slow growth rate. I'm looking for something with decent size and an aggressive personality. Any suggestions? thanks

manuelli ( spelling ??)

yeah serrasalmus manuelli would be nice. Careful though, these guys are generally considered one of the most sensitive piranha species. A 125 would be great, but bear in mind that people who have had good success with these guys keep them solo in super huge tanks (180+), or ponds.

most serra grow slowly just like rhom, so doesn't matter which one you decide to go with you should start with a big one to begin with. as for aggressive personality goes, each fish is different, you can have a aggressive rhom or manny but then there's also a equal chance that you end up with a wuss one. IMO it would be better to get the one that attracts you in the look department than aggression as it can be mean as hell in the fish store's tinny little holding tank then behave totally different in your 125g, not saying it'll be like that for sure but it's very possible.
Manueli has a more color (red on the gill plate) but personally I like the look of diamond rhom. just look through the pics and videos in the media section to get an idea and then see what your lfs (or online vendor) has to offer

ok thanks for the info everyone. I'll probably go with a blue diamond rhom considering they all grow pretty slow anyway. can I keep a rhom in a 125 for life?

yes, you can keep one in a 125g for life.

sounds cool

go for either a larger rhom 8"+ or maybe a geryi or manny

keeping in mind that my 125gall is only 18'' wide I would think that a fish(rhom) that will get 15'' or so would be too large for the tank. Please let me know what you think?

unless you get one at 15" or bigger other wise it'll take years and years for one to get to that size if it ever will.
the biggest diamond I've seen vendors selling is 14" and it's $$$$$, if you grow out one from small then it'll most likely it max out at around 12" or so in captivity so you'll be fine with 125g.
