not entirely sure if this is the right place for this but here goes.. my mother in law recently told me i could have a countertop with a nice big slab of marble on it and i just took some measurements.. the footprints 8' by 20" so i figured i could get a pretty respectable tank to fill up the empty space. i was just wondering, with such a long skinny space what i should be looking into? are there any good custom tank builders around the new york area? would it be smarted to bite the bullet and do it myself? what sort of stock would i be limited to in a space like that?

Thank you everyone for your ideas!

i wouldn't do it 20" is too narrow...& if you do setup one i'd have it professionally done unless your really handy. prob gonna need extra bracing & etc. seeing how is so narrow and long its a lot of water volume & pressure, but if you do i would prob go with all different types of pbass. they look really cool! like azuals, kelberis & etc. maybe some bichirs and bottom dwellers too :) jmo & my 2 cents.

Ask your local LFS imo, theyd probably custom size you one for not that much.
At that size it wouldnt be worth the time for DIY.

Otherwise you do see 6'x18" 2nd hand commonly.

just go with a 6 foot x 18 size.

but make sure the counter can handle the weight. obviously, the marble slab on top can, but make sure whats underneath it can. you dont want the tank + slab to come crashing down.

remember, its going to be at least 1000 pounds up there.

good luck and enjoy your new tank!

nevermind i found it, 22' high is 125g and 28' high is 150g. what would someone expect to pay for one of those? reasonable prices for new or used?
