^ this... The plastic ones look like crap IMO. I use silk in my 220g and they move very realistically in flow. Silk will also allow algae growth and the color will change in areas depending on lighting conditions. 2 months and they look more real than anything else. Anyone that's been to my place will back me up on this. They are also about a tenth the cost of the overpriced ones at the LFS. Go to the Goodwill or the arts/crafts store. You'd be blown away at the ideas you'll get at the crafts store. I buy the "spider" plants there and love em.... Clean em, save some cash and enjoy. ;)

Go to michaels or any other craft store. Just remember not to get the ones with metal in them.

WAAAAAAY cheaper than the LFS and they look a lot better too.

I bought $90 worth of plastic plants from michael's and got $300 worth of what I would have got at my LFS. They had metal in them but I tore them apart and added brass rods instead. No problems and they look great IMO. Plus when you get BAD algae problems, a quick wipedown is all it takes

All of the advise about silk plants has been top shelf. Personally, I have never liked the look of plastic plants in any tank. Mine or the tanks of my friends. One thing to keep in mind, is that when you purchase your silk plants, make sure they are of good quality,(i.e. no wires or metal in the stems, the silk is colorfast -meaning no heavy leaching of color dye, and all of the plant is there-no missing leaves, etc.). Take time to examine your silk plants. There's a wide variety out there. Happy shopping and stay away from local fish shops. Michaels or a dollar stores are good places to check for bargains. Good luck.
