I just purchased a New Hydor Koralia Power Head 4 (1200 GPH) for my 125 and Im wondering what is the best placement for it?

I have it on the left side, halfway down and going vertical causing a current mid level. Im wondering, should I use it to push the bubbles coming out of the airstones to bring even more oxygen into the tank? or point it at a 45 degree angle breaking the surface. I have 3 emperor 400s for filtration that break the surface pretty good and 2 large air stones powered by 2 rena air 400 air pumps (each is supposedly for a 150 gallon tank).

I notice that the bubbles are a little to the left from the current going around the tank. Is the powerhead I got too strong? I went the 1200 gph route because Im getting a 180 shortly.

Thanks!

Thanks for the reply. do you have it mounted on the back of the tank or on the side? I posted a pic so you could see where it was.

I have my HK3 on the side of the tank pointed upward and toward the front. Seems to work well and also acts as surface agitator at the same time.

Oxygen is produced when the water surface is broke...The air bubbles are more of a beatification thing....

Seems like your tank is well oxygenated. I used to use powerheads and I always placed it on the side and let it blow length-wise of the tank.

I think they are more important than just for beautification...not saying they are imperative, but pretty useful in maintaining highly oxygenated water.

The airstones (air pumps) increase the surface area and offer better circulation....and by increasing the surface area of the water, it allows the bubbles a better opportunity to release carbon dioxide and take up oxygen. Then the improved circulation will move highly oxygenated water from the surface lower in the tank.

Air stones can do a ton for current in a tank. I had a 20L set up one time on the kitchen island, and didn't want to block the back of the tank with a filter, so I put it on one end. On the other end I put a bubble wand down on the bottom, and it made an awesome current. I had loose floating Java moss, and they would do circles in the tank- up to the surface in the bubbles, down to the end with the HOB filter where it would be pushed down, then back toward the bubbler. It made it almost like a stream in the tank.
