I will be usig a 72"30"x24" glass tank with either a basic 65 gallon or 75 gallon sump. my initial plan was to have 3 heaters (3x200watts or 3x250 watts) and place one in the sump and one at each end of the tank. the room will be 65-70 degrees all year round and I would like to keep the tank's temperature steady around 78-80 degrees

what I was wondering is, can I put all my heaters in the sump to heat the main tank? I would prefer to have the heaters in the sump and if possible, would be getting a bigger titanium heater(s) instead.

(I will be using a temp controller of it matters)

thanks in advance

The sump will be putting the water back in the tank so if the water is 78 then the tank will be 78. It might just take awhile since your talking about alot of water in the tank and not soo much in the sump, a few days and all should be well.

that sounds like a good idea the waters just getting sucked out from the sump into the main tank so it shouldn't lose any heat diffidently monitor the water temperature though to see if its working properly

yea, that's what I was thinking but figured glass tanks had poor insulation and it would lose the heat fast. I guess it just takes longer to warm up and longer to cool down for this size of a tank?

I've had one 300watt in my 125 before, it worked. So a 500 should be fine for a 220. It's better though to have two heaters though, if your heater dies then your screwed and won't notice it's too late maybe for the fish. At least with two 250 watt it won't be that bad if one dies or malfunctions. Plus this way you have two heaters in case you get a new tank and need a heater for a couple of days until you purchase a new one.

i got a 55 gal sump for my 220 with 2 300 watt heaters in the sump and i keep my tank 80 deg. with no problems
