My plants should be doing better, all my parameters are good and lighting is fine. Which plant food do recommend? Thanks

plant food? as in nutrients? if so, the most effecient way of doing this is to purchase bulk dry fertilizers that cover your nitrogen (dosed via nitrates); phosphorus (dosed via phospates); and potash (dosed via potassium). and Plantex CSM+B which will dose your trace micro nutrients. this is the cheapest way of doing it.

if you dont have a lot of plants, you can also you Seachem's line which includes all of the above, but is a little more expensive.

hope that helps :)

I hear this a lot, its too general...to get more complete and accurate answers post the parameters and let the pros decide if they are "good"
pending your plant selection......

ph - 8
rite - 0
rate - .5
am -0
temp - 78

  • 40 watt, 48 inch Sunglow @ 6,700
  • 40 watt, 48 inch Actict 1)
  • 18 watt, 24 inch Flora Sun @ 5,000 (I think)
  • 18 watt, 24 inch I don’t know what type
What else should/can i check for? Thanks

is this on your 90g tank? the lighting look good for a low-light setup. anubias and ferns arent exactly fast growers, so i dont think youll see a huge growth spurt by adding nutrients, although it will help.

you should also consider adding a source of carbon/co2 like Flourish Excel

your ph is 8! that might be a problem for growth....also as the other stated these low light plants are NOT the fastest to grow and with NO C02 they will barely grow at all BUT are very hardy and forgiving with water parameters.

8 is kinda low for my Cichlids, should be around 8.2
I should just be happy that I have plants they dont eat! Thanks for all advice, Sean

yeah these plants are nice since theyre easy to grow, but the trade off is that they grow very very slow. i have these in my 10g low light setup with no co2. i think i see a new leaf every 3 weeks!!!

well there ya go! want cichlids, got slow growing plants, guess as long as they are healthy and happy then who cares if they are slow growing...be happy...if you did have lower PH your plants would do better so its a sacrafice which way ya want the tank....FYI IMO unless these are FO africans they can live up to full color and potential in 8 PH even a little lower. BUT not as low as you would need for thriving plants and faster growth
