I have an 8 foot tank, with a 4 feet sump filter.
currenttly my return pipe returns the water in the middle of the tank, then flows back to the sump on the other end, would it be better if I move the return to the other end of the tank? opposite the ooverflow? but this would make the return pipe longer.

any ideas/suggestions?

my return is in the middle of my 180 with a tee to push the water both ways, I have a weir at each end though so it works out. If you only have the weir at one end you are probably better off blowing from the opposite end. increasing the length of the return pipe horizontally shouldn't effect the flow too too much as its really head height that slows things down. or so I believe

I'd want the water to return closer to the opposite end. ( e.g., 7/8ths of the way, not 1/2.) You won't necessarily have a dead spot on the opposite side of the tank, but you will get uneven water turnover to some extent.

Alternatively, you could add power heads or wave makers to the opposite end, but you might not need to do that if instead the water was ejected on the opposite end.

thanks :) Planning to modify my return pipe, also planning to change it top a hose instead.
might also change the powerhead to a more powerful one.
