Best price on Eheim 2250

can your budget stretch to a 2260? it's about 30 pounds more expensive here in the uk. But crucially it has an additional drain cock at the bottom that the 2250 does not have. With the 2260 you can backwash the filter via the drain cock and extend the time needed before you need to open up the actual filter itself. A very handy feature, i wish i bought a 2260 instead of the 2080 when i was shopping for a large cannister.

Of course the capacity of the 2260 is a lot larger so you need to buy more filter media, but if the capacity of the 2250 was good enough, then just buy some cheap ceramic rings etc to fill the extra space in the 2260.

just my 2 cents :)

The reason id rather go with the 2250 is that I already have an fx5 hooked up , and the tank is 125gal.... afraid 2260 may be to much flow for the tank , and need a filter with a lot of bio with low turnover rating .

maybe I should go with xp3 or fluval 405??.. something with at least 8 liters of media . Eheim doesn't have very many models in that range - http://www.petsolutions.com/Info.aspx?id=59

Started to go with a sump , but I don't want to worry about waking up to a flooded basement:grinno:.

Maybe shoulda went with the 2260 to start with , but couldnt pass up the fx5 at the price :D .. and its been a great filter thus far.

Depends on what your looking for in a filter. Only enough Beneficial Bacteria to process toxins will survive on your bio-media. Bacteria does not stockpile itself, it will die off and regenerate to adjust to your bio-load. So the key is having enough bio-media. IMO the more turnover the better and there are tons of ways to diffuse outputs.

Its not too much flow -- I have a 2260 and a FX5 on a 125, and I don't see my fish flying around because of water flow. I think its just about right for that sized tank.

As others have suggested, I would also suggest going with a 2260. And btw, for the prices for 2250 quoted above, you can get a 2260. Just use the CK- product code (see some other thread I have started). Here is the link:

Go with the biggest one you can afford. Thats what I did with my last 125 setup :)

thanks for the link! ... Ill go with the 2260 or another FX5 .... :D

you can always get a tap to the outlet hose and slow down the flow if it's too much.
