Just like the title says,

I am going to attempt to use only distilled water in my freshwater aquarium due to the hardness, the high PH, and very high buffers present in my tap water. I am looking for suggestions on the best product to use to "treat" the distilled water and add back in the minerals, electrolytes, and buffers to achieve a near neutral PH that is stable and consistent before adding it during water changes.

Thanks
Reed

For even cheaper you could mix some tap water in with the RO/DI water.

i have been using a mixture of my tap water (treated with Prime) and distilled water in an attempt to dilute the hardness and alkalinity of the tap water. I am currently using around 80% distilled to 20% tap in my test reservoir. And the PH is lower but still around 8 with the hardness and alkalinity still high. My question is how much distilled water is too much when mixing it with the tap water. If the tap water is obviously extremely hard as mine is, is it feasible to have a distribution around 80-85% distilled to 20-15% tap. Or would the minerals and nutrients be too diluted to sustain fish and a constant PH.

Too much is too much
Monitor your dH, gH like you're doing
until they are correct for the species you keep
if it takes a 1:100 mix then thats fine
(it wont)
