Hi, could anyone give me a good recommendation for a ray to begin with?

Motoro are the most bulet proof but they get BIG... so what size tank do you have?

motoro marble motoro hystrix leopoldi are all about the same to take care off just different price levels

tigers flower and reticlatus are a bit more tricky

Leopoldi and henlei are best for starters . They are not very expensive anymore and in a few years Youl still like them .

Whatever you like.. in the end you'll spend a bunch on food and husbandry in general to off-set the prices. and make sure it's a healthy one, CB is def better then wild caught in that reguard. Get the fish you want, you'll have it for years( think dog) if you take care of it.
