Hi guys, still working on my monster filter, my barrel is currwntly sitting in a back room of some post office. So other than that hold up i have a new question.

With such a large tank and filter i have been considering several different return set ups. Some will churn the water others wont. What are your thoughts?

The tank will have bichirs, arros, and maybe some geo's.

Eductors are a good way to improve flow in your tank. It's not good for slower or smaller fish but will be fine f your stock.

I really like venturi return nozzles. While usually used in swimming pools, they work great in tanks. I like that you can adjust the flow direction by turning the nozzle. Both eductors and venturi nozzles increase flow by the venturi effect. (Fluid's velocity increases when passing through a constricted area)

Will eductors and venturis work at gravity pressure?

One of my after thoughts with my reeflo is they arent suction pumps, so i want to eliminate as much before the pump as possible but still have at minimum mechanical filtration to protect the pump from debris.

I finally have all the parts minus a bulkhead or two which im picking up today. Maybe some pictures of my set up will help.

I don't understand. I use a Hammerhead pump for my mechanical filtration. All the debris runs through the Hammerhead pump and then through two Pentair Rainbow RTL-25 filters and then returns to the tank through a Venturi nozzle. We have extreme mechanical filtration. This is the picture that the reef guy who sold me the RTLs and Hammerhead pump gave me:

This is our set up:

this is a little off topic, but in our picture the tall vertical pipe on the right is coming from a 55 gallon holding tank that has a water line to it. We just open the valve to add water to the tank. On the extreme right against the wall is a pipe going downward. It leads to a line under the house that extends out to the patio. We open the valve outside and drain out water. The uptakes on our bare floor tank are just off the floor, so we can literally drain the tank dry (which I accidentally did when I got on the phone and forgot)

jsc is using an RTL-100 as a prefilter. You might consider doing something like this:

Love RTLs and going with six RTL-100s on the big set up.

Between the Hammerhead pump and the venturi nozzle, we have quite a current in the 300 gallon tank. Here they are in action during a water change refill of the tank. BTW, RTLs are more commonly used in big reef set ups. A guy who sets up reef tanks is the one who introduced us to them.

Here's another discussion about mechanical filtration. Kendragon's reply to my comment that perhaps I should have put the mechanical filtration before the pump.
