Many of us here on MFK have multiple tanks which require quite a bit of upkeep. I'm just getting back into after a few years of moving around.

So my question is, which website or store has the best/most beneficial rewards program for us fish keepers?

Actually Petco if you have one in your area or visit the site online, dr.foster and smith even Amazon have discounts.

It's all based on degrees. I got some decent discounts from several suppliers but, my orders were fairly large. I was ordering pellet, stick, and flake foods by the pallet. And, my frozen orders were around 50lbs a month. It's hunt & peck for the best deals. And, the closer to home, the better since delivery costs can be huge.

Amazon(get prime if you order often enough, it's well worth it) and dr foster and smith are my major go to's for pet supplies. Some mom and pop shops give really good deals. I'm just not close enough to any for it to help me. But maybe you live in a better area. Haha

Both of my LFS have closed so I just have Petco and PetSmart left.

I normally order from Amazon (prime) now because the prices are far less then Petco.

An example. Right now the tetra whisper 60 is on sale at Petco. $16. Go over to Amazon. Also $16.

Now upsize to the 100 and it goes up to $26 at Petco with the sale price. Amazon is also $16.

So since I don't have a local to support anymore. I've been on Amazon. I'd like a rewards program like Petco. But with the shear savings of Amazon. My dollar goes farther.

Were these your hatchery days? I guess to afford that you'd definitely need to make some money back selling fish..

Actually, these trucked orders were for my hobby only. I made my income off of the redclaw crays (bought their bulk items locally) and my job as a Process Engineer. My Navy pension every month doesn't suck either.

Engineering and pension. That must be nice. I got shot at too many times in my 4 years to keep going.

All that fish gear and you made money on Cray's?

Well, from larvae to adult, my hatchery inventory averaged half-a-million crays. And, at an average market value of $13-$15/lb we did OK selling these 1 pound crays to food markets, restaurants, and internet buyers.

So to get the thread back on track.

Looks like the best options are:

  1. Any LFS that really likes you.
  2. Amazon (if you have prime) for free shipping and lowest price. No returns past that.
  3. Petco with their 5% cash back pet pals.
