best sand for sting rays

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
your going to get quite afew different responses on this. you can go with flint sand, pool filter sand, play lot sand, 3m quartz, tahiti moon sand, and so on and so forth.

I personally use pool filter sand, I used it cause it is cheap and very ray safe. doesnt look the best, but it serves its purpose. I have wanted to change it to something that looks better, but may do that when I change my setup.

i would use pool filter sand cuz its " dirt cheap" lol srry for the bad pun. but i bought some for $8 for 50lbs and am using it for my bichirs

I'll never buy expensive sand again.

Find a local place that sells rocks, stones, gravel, etc.

We have a place here

I purchased two 50lb bags of 'river sand' today for $13 each!

It looks just like torpedo beach sand.

Yes I have to rinse it, and it's not wet already, but with the money I saved I don't mind investing the time to do it properly.

where do they sell good sand for a stingray tank? Website would help too thanks all

I use Estes. Like the way it looks. It's heavy enough to stay down with a group of rays.

Ray tanks don't need a lot of sand. Why gamble to save a few bucks after spending hundreds or even thousands on rays?

I enjoy my peace of mind.

Has anyone ever used the Estes Natural Beach Sand?

Spotfin, I used Estes natural at 1st on my set up. In the tank it looks white, so I've been adding and mixing other Estes colors to get more natural look.

Estes does have a darker brown on their site but I never find it at LFS or even on-line vendors.

I agree with DB junkie, 100% knowing Este brand sand is 100% safe and made for aquaria and soft-skinned fish. like DB said, "Why chance and save a few bucks when you can spend a little extra and feel safe knowing your sand is fine for your rays"
