best small aquatic turtles as pets?

i am thinking about getting my some aquatic turtles as pets. i can fork over the $$$ for the proper habitat, but have a strong preference for SMALL aquatic turtles that are appropriate for the beginning to intermediate hobbyist. ideas? thanks in advance ...

Stinkpots are easy, and are the smallest avaliable aquatic turtle, that I can think of.

Many musk and muds will do. Some sidenecks like the smallest Pelusios sp will too. Male map turts thend to be small.

These were most of the ones I was thinking of. A male painted turtle might also fit your definition of "small"
