I'm in the process of starting up a 10g tank for my gf. She'd like a small cichlid that is full of personality... I understand a 10g is pretty small, but does anyone have any recommendations for owner responsive fish for that size tank?

Thanks!

I agree, shell dwellers like neolamprologus brevis would give you the most enjoyment out of a ten gallon.

I once had a breeding pair of julidochromis transcriptus in a ten gallon, which worked out great for me, but most people will probably recommend a larger tank for that

apistogrammas are great fish and most trios will be happy in a ten , but they only live 3-4 years. very inquisitive. active without being hyper. a couple caves against the back glass, some top heavy or floating plants so they have an open area under cover. add 8-10 pygmy type cories and you've got an entertaining setup.
darn it, now I want some more apistos.

+1 on the dwarf cichlids. Add a school of neons too!!
