what would be the best boa species for me.I want something that is a constrictor, but then again doesent get over 6 feet long.I was thinking ball python, but i dont kno.

All boas are constrictors, and pythons are not boas. They're all boids, but pythons lay eggs and I think there are some skeletal differences.

That said, I'll assume you want either a python or a boa. Most carpet pythons only get between five and six feet and aren't too difficults to care for. Ball pythons are small and easygoing but notorious for going long periods without eating.

Now, since everyone who replies is going to have a favorite snake and will try to get you to get one of those, and since I'm no exception to that rule, get a cb baby blood python. They're a little harder to care for, but in a few years you'll have a big (girthy; they rarely make it to six feet), fat, lazy, and beautiful snake. And if you treat it right, over time that nippy hatchling can become almost dog-tame.

I've never kept boas though, so I'll leave them to other people.

i love bloods but i've had some that never calm down then you end up with a fat lazy snake with a respectable bite, that and getting crapped on isnt on my list of activities though it happens at least once a week to me at work.

personally....hogg island boas are nice, ball pythons (captive bred and feeding, none of those cheap ass show specials you'll be assist feeding until the cows come home).

Get a Ball Python. Enjoy the Python keeping experience without ending up with a monster on your hands!:)
Common Boa's are awesome. They do get larger than 6 foot but not by much. Gentle, beautiful snakes.

I agree that if you want a "smallish" Boid start with a CAPTIVE BORN Ball Python.

My faves are Boa Constrictors but you are dealing with a bigger animal. My female is aproaching 12 feet. ;)

Have to agree my favorite snakes are balls for sheer looks and behaviour just keep in mind they'll be around for a long time record is around 50 yrs for one in captivty..
one the other hand i really want a carpet python for myself just havent got one yet. ..

Aside from the species already mentioned, here are some more options, although they may not be as readily available as ball pythons or Boa Constrictor.

Children's python - 2+ ft
Spotted python - 2-3 ft
Sand boas (various) 2-3 ft
Pacific tree/ground boas (various) 3-5 ft
Carpet python - 5-7 ft (on the skinny side)
Calabar burrowing python - 3-4 ft
Rubber boa - 2-3 ft
Rosy boa - 3+ ft
Dumerils boa 6-8 ft (about the same as a reg. boa)

Get a royal. Or for something a bit different, a jungle carpet or a childrens. Think childrens can be quite nippy though.

Heck, corns a constrictors. If you going to get a carpet, watch out. Ones like mine can easily atain 8 foot+. Get a Irian Jaya in that case. They stay smaller. If I was you, I would get a Dwarf Retic. They get 5-6 feet. But it doesnt matter what you get, as long as its CBB.
