I'm moving my two 6inchish Cuban Cichlids for a 55 for breeding purposes. I was wondering what people think is the best substrate for Cubans?

I breed my Cuban pair (male is my avatar picture) in a 90 gallon with a mix of sand and "pea" gravel. They like to "dig" large pits when spawning. I like sand because I find it easier to keep clean, but if you go for sand make sure you have Pre-filters over your filter intakes because they will probably end up stirring and spitting it everywhere--my male decided to spit sand directly in an aquaclear powerhead intake over and over until it clogged up. Funny fish.

I used small gravel when I had my Cubans.
