I have a 6 inch dovii who is now on light natural gravel which I think takes away from his colors. I was leaning towards a darker gravel but not sure if that would make a difference. What do you guys think the best color/type of substrate for a dovii is?

well if the darker the gravel his colors will come out more and he would be darker as well so u will see the blues and greens more you could go with a black sand or gravel..it would look nice

I've also been curious about this, I've been thinking about changing colors, anyone else have an opinion for best gravel/substrate for dovii?

Any cichlid i've ever kept has always shown better colouration against darker substrate. I've tried sand as well as lighter gravel and was not happy with what i was seeing.

at the moment i have my little dovii on coral sand and they look washed out, im doing a 150G 4 them on the weekend and im going to go black, all the dark dovii tanks iv seen look good:headbang2

yeah I had mine on blue gravel, definitely did not do the job, just finished up taking all of that gravel out, i think i'm gonna go with a black sand substrate, should look real nice when I get done, I'll post pics tonight or tomorrow whenever I get a chance.
