I like the "other poly's" suggestion. If your looking for variety, a variety of bichirs. The sticky is good but very extensive, check out the media lounge and you will see some of the tank mates other members have.
Personally, I have found most cichlids leave Bichirs alone, mid size catfish are good, smaller snakeheads and of course simalarily sized gar.

Not really.... Discus need lower ph water and archer fish need brackish water and when keep in fully fresh water they need higher ph.
other poly's - clown knife - datnoids me thinks...
or if you wanted to go with an african theme how about a couple of elephant nose fish or afican knife (one or the other as both use electric current to navigate and find food) and some butterfly fish for the top level and how about a buttikoferi cichlid for the mid level? add to that some anubias plants on driftwood and hey presto you have an african biotope!
