What are the best tankmates for a ray? I want one that will be able to live in a 6ft long * 3ft wide * 2 ft deep for life. I want one that would never harass the ray and won't steal all its food, as the ray will be the main fish. I will put the other fish in first and make sure the tank is good and cycled before putting the ray in.

some altums perhaps;)

Wow, I never would've thought of angelfish; I used to keep them and I really like them. Discus are beautiful, but I've never kept them. Don't they require warm water, around 82 degrees? And don't they require very specific water parameters? (I know rays do too, I was just wondering if the discus's were the exact same). Aren't altums a type of wild angelfish?

I wouldn't advise any of those options, both will be eaten by the rays. All aros apart from jardini. All dats are fine too.

if you put discus or angels in that tank they wont last 5 mins once the rays get to 10inch

arowana geofagus or tigers/dats the mid water has always been a problem in a ray tank

Dats, silver-black or jardini arowana, gars (no alligator gars), frontosa will work also.

ooops i forgot fontosa i had them with rays for a bit it worked well :D

i agree about the discus and angels i had a lg angel in with my ray i was surprised for a while it was fine then eventually it was a snack. i have seen some of these other fish mentioned with rays and i have also heard of some of these fish get eaten by rays i don't know if there is a wrong or a right fish for compatibility. you are at risk always whether it is risk for the other fish or for the ray. i personally like flying fox fish for cleaning up left food and if they get eaten not a big loss
