Hi all, I have just drained my tank and removed my botched 3d back ground in order to paint the back black, I have removed the majority of the silicone with a stanley knife blade but there is still a thin layer left, what is the best way to remove this?

I still have the sand in the tank so ideally no harsh chemicals.

Hello; Not sure where the uneanted silicone is. Are you saying that the botched background was adheared to the glass with silicone and there are stubborn spots of it left on the glass? If so have you tried to rub the silicone that is left with your fingers or a cloth? Some times a thin film of curedd silicone will rub off ffor me. A single edge razor blade generally does a good job of removing silicone from glass. I like to use them in a holder that provides a firm grip and hold them at a very shallow angle. Use it gently and keep an eye out for the corners of the blade, if they get bent a scratch can result.

The backgound was siliconed to the back glass of the tank, I removed what I can with a blade but now I have a sort of residue which the blade doesn't really touch.

Try using a new sharp blade. I just removed the silicone from an old 20L that was used as a sump and was able to get it all out using 3 new blades.
