I'm going fishing for black bullhead this summer and I want to know when to do it and what to use? Live bait? Nightcrawler? Piece of fish? Tell me. :)

Something smelly and probably at night

i just trap mine in a pond... over here they are considered rough fish and trapping is acceptable..

10 dollar minnow trap + chicken scraps = 20 bullheads a night.. :D

I do best with pieces of fish such as bluegill. Nice little chunk and let it sit on the bottom. Keep the line tight and watch for movement.

I use nightcrawlrs and cheese. I catch them at all times, but night seems to be the best for em. Howver, My biggest came during the day. The secret to catching them is finding the structure that they associate with. It's usually fairly deep water with some form of cover, like rocks, a pier, fallen trees, stuff like that.

chicken livers
A helpful tip when fishing with soft baits that can get sucked off the hook is to wrap it in a piece of panty hose and then hook through the panty hose.

Fatheads, smaller suckers, leeches, earthworms, anything that moves and dead baitfish, and one point we used a rock bass and we landed a 3lbs yellow bullhead with a rock bass head. Hook them on a lead hook and let it settle down on the bottom at night. We caught 30 bullheads a night.

twighlight into night. Worms or chicken liver are/is best, beneath a float. Make sure the bait is resting on the bottom as that is how catfish feed.

Basically something smelly sitting on the bottom will get bit.
