I have a 75 cichlid tank that was just infested with ich. I was just wondering what is the quickest and best way to get rid of it. I have heard of treatment with salt and by turning up the heat. I dont really want to use methlyne blue because I am afraid it might stain the drift wood and stuff I got in there. Is there any type of medicine I can use that wont affect the things in my tank. Any info would be appreciated.

if its early stage the salt and temp is your best chance
:iagree: w/ dialphantom.

Always had luck w/ salt & raise temp. method, Aquari-sol, or good ol' faithful... Rid-ich. (partial/half dose, when needed?) :)

Check out this link....

Salt would be your best bet to start with....Turn up the temp to about 85 and add about 1 tablespoon to each 5 gallons....

Rasing the tepm speeds up the cycle of the parasite, bringing it to a treatable stage...
Super Ick Cure by AQUARIUM PHARMACEUTICALS has always worked for me....Give it a shot and let us know how things go!!!

I would do the 2 teaspoons of salt per gallon and heat to mid 80s before trying meds, I know that most ich meds are safe but I try to save them for really stubborn cases and am also a cheap bastard. That level of salt might effect some of your more sensitive plants but most should be fine. Keep up the treatment at least 5 days. some sites recomend adding the salt 1/4 at a time 4 hrs apart, I've done that but also just pured it in all at once and never seen a difference. I do however dissolve the salt in warm water first so it disperses quicker.

Ya I siphoned in the 2 teaspoons per gallon of water with an air line hose yesterday. Raised the temp up to 84/85 and things to be going good. Thanks for all the info everyone.

Agree with both.....usually works for me. If its really bad, like you were away and "holy $hit" when you get home.....I'll do all of the above and hit it with malachite green or a meth blue....never stains for long if it does.
