just wondering what the best product out right now for bigger tanks 500gl+? anyone try the Emperor Aquatics smart uvs? their pricey for even comming with lifetime warrenty.
but the specs are impressive

Emperor Aquatics 40 Watt Smart UV Lite
max. Pond Size 2900 gallons
Max. flow rate- based on new lamp - performance 983 GPH
Suggested flow rate - based on end of usable lamp life performance (60% output) - 589 GPH

vs

coralife
Turbo-Twist 12x: 36 watt, treats up to 500 gallon saltwater or freshwater aquariums

how could 4watts quadruple the tank volume?

me personally i'd go with the coralife turbo twist

Not quadruple.. Ur looking at tank ratings vs pond ratings.. Coralife works I used them in 9 watts. Never had an issue and killed lots of algae problems and parasite probs..

I vote Coralife. If not try deep blue in tank UV. They make them up to 500 gal

You may want to look into Aqua UV, since you run sand filter with strong pump. Either 40-watt or 57-watt will do

Can't go past the Emperor Aquatics bro
best UV on the market IMHO
Don't get caught up with other manufacturers over done flow rate suggestions

Any one know y the price from a 40watt to a 57 watt jumps by double from 300 to 700$?

Ha ha. Try looking at the price of 120W UV sterilizers:)

Here is an excellent article on UV sterilizers. Level One Sterilization is the most common and recommended application for most fish tanks.
http://www.americanaquariumproducts.com/AquariumUVSterilization.html#whatsize

For a 500 gallon tank, the minimum turnover rate is 1.5 times, or 750 gph. At 1 Watt per 20 gph, the needed wattage is 37.5 Watts. So a 40W UV sterilizer would work on a 500 gallon tank if the flow rate was 750 gph. If you have a faster flow rate, you would need more wattage. Because my UV sterilizer is plumbed to my FX-5, I needed a 40W UV for my 300 gallon tank. If I had 450 gph flow through the UV sterlizer, I could have gotten by with a 20Watt UV sterilizer.

I believe that pond UV sterilizers are basically used for clarification purposes.

You're comparing a standard 40W vs a 57W HO. High output units put out double the intensity. Burns hotter and more effective.
