:irked:whats is the best way to go about doing this ? i dont want to drain my already biologic stable its a 55 i have sand to put in it but i have to get rid of the gravel in it

Best way i have found is to scoop it out with a net. Then you just have to siphon out a small amount that's left over. It kicks up a lot of dirt so it's a good idea to do a partial water change at that point anyway.

strainer, like you would use to make pasta.

just use a extra large dustpan but drill lots of holes in it or it be really heavy. get a rubbermaid tub to store it in. you never know when you will change your mind......... i've learned not the ditch my equip

I actually got lucky with the dustpan I was using. It had a hole in the handle and the way it was designed, I was able to tilt it backwards once it was full and all the water would run out of the handle. I guess drilling holes in it would have been way easier.

I've used a strainer to get the bulk out and then a net to get the rest...

Although if I had a dust pan like Keith's I would have used that, but I don't see myself drilling holes in a dustpad to do it... but then again that is because I already have a "fish use" strainer...
