What do you guys/gals use to clean your aquarium decor and filters???

My heaters have brown colored deposits on it and I am having probs cleaning it. And my filters also get a hard white colored deposit on it that is almost impossible to clean.

Please share what you use, be it household items or certain cleaning products made for the aquarium hobby.

THANKS
JAMIE

I've always used vinegar with a wash rag, fine scotchbrite pad depending on what your cleaning use discretion and on flat glass a flat razor blade scraper, if you use it on your tank watch the silicone. Vinegar is cheap and easily dilluted and I've liked it better than the aquarium cleaner. I've always been scared to use household cleaners although I know some people do.

Thanks Lou! Do you ever "soak" anything in vinegar, like fake plants, heaters, etc.

The brown stuff on my heater is extremely hard. I tried using a pocket knife to scrape it off and that wasn't very effective. It's my fault since I never clean plastic plants or my heaters, ever! And my filters I just do a quick rub down after every other water change.

Anyone else with some products or household items that have worked well??

I too have always used vnegar and hot water. I have added the use of a nylon pot scrubbie for hard to clean items. Soaking in vinegar isnt a problem just be sure to rinse thouroughly.
