For those of you who have made your own w/d filter, what does your return design look like? I'm trying to think of the best way to create a waterfall, so that I am breaking the surface tension in the water and creating some circulation. Otherwise the return is just a stream of water blasting out of a hose. I've heard of people using sprayers, but I doubt these would be very pleasing to the eye.

Welcome Finmore...

If you have a full cover on your tank, your a little limited. A full length spray bar agitates the surface and has a pleasant sound, and if too noisy double the amount of holes.

A weir (6"-12") return is also a viable method, just not as much splash.

If your running a W/D, aerate the water in the sump (more efficient) so there is no need to splash it in the tank.

Now if your going for aesthetics make a foam waterfall and cascade the water down it (best to have a big tank for this).
