I decided I'm going to setup a 30gal tank for some cichlids.

I am wondering the fastest way to go about getting it cycled in my situation. I'm going for scrubbies as my biomedia in a canister filter.

A.) Put scrubbies into my already established canister filter and 55gallon tank and let them grow some BB on them..

B.) Put about 15-20 feeder guppies in the tank and do a cycle with feeders only..

What do you guys think? A or B?

Thanks! :headbang2

Since you already have a established tank you should just take some of your existing substrate, throw it in pantyhose and leave it hanging by the filter inlet on your 30 gal. Also, do a wc on your 55 and dump it in the 30. Will def speed things up. Cycling with fish is just a pain in the ass. I mean you can let the feeders die, but thats cruel :P

Bacteria only grows so fast.

If you have the time, put the new filter on the old tank in tandem with the old one for a couple of weeks.

Don't put used tank water in the new tank, if your old filter system is working properly there isn't anything for the new filter to use, your just introducing garbage into the tank. It's the filter that you are cycling not the tank.

Thanks guys.

Dr Joe I went with your advice and setup the canister in tandem with my existing one on my 55g.
