I've decided I want to do Vieja for my 180g. What do you guys think.

I have found synspilum amongst the most peaceful along with hetro's.
The zonatus group including guttulatum and sp,coatz seem very aggressive. Argentea are also known to be aggressive.
I have also kept veija regani, these were very aggressive to tank mates.
I have kept synspilum as pairs alongside a colony of thorichthys meeki and it worked very well. There was some aggression at breeding time but nothing detrimental to the meeki.
It's best if keeping firemouths, to have a group of six or more,that way not one fish is a target.

Neat I was thinking either syn or bifa. It's good to hear that it worked with fire mouths because I might do that.
It was a good combination, worked well for me at least.I started with a group of synspilum 6of them.They were fine for a while but eventually when a pair found each other the rest were not tolerated.
Opinions will vary but based on my experience and what i was told from other members it may end up being a single fish tank no matter what you choose. Had argentea and zonatus and the argentea wouldnt tolerate tank mates at all. The zo left non cichlids alone.
I had to put the zo in my 150 plan was to leave him there for a couple of hours then move him out...didnt last more than 5 minutes immediately attacked my heterospilus.
If i had to try again i would go for a pair and hope one doesnt get killed

I'd say in a community. Vieja are not usually the best wet pets. They'd do fine in a 180, but when they're adults that tank might be too small. I have a 125, and it's just a growout tank.
Breeding would be great, but what do you do with all the babies? Unless you're planning on getting another tank to growout fish that hatch, I can't see breeding fish. That's kinda where I am right now--like to have a breeding pair, but don't want to get another tank any time soon.
