So I have a female and male jag in my 100 that I am trying to breed. I finally got a male jag about almost a month ago. The person who I got it from strictly feed it live feeder fish. I have been trying to feed him pellets but he will not take them at all. I want to get him off feeder fish and into pellets. My female jag just recently started taking Hikari pellets and loves them. My male took one Hikari pellet today and just spit it out. I've tried feeding him beef heart, krill. Nope, he doesn't like it. Should I just starve him until he takes the pellet? I haven't feed him since Saturday of this past weekend. He watches the female eat the pellets so I know he'll eventually take them but for how long? I also have tried nls and he won't eat it along with my female which is fine. My female took awhile before she started eating pellets. Before this she would only eat Hikari algae wafers which is really strange cause jags are carnivores.

So should I just starve him until he takes the pellets? Thanks

If he tried to eat it then spat it out the you know he sees it as a potential food source so now it's just a waiting game, only offer him the pellets and he will eat them when he's hungry enough. Never kept a jag but most cichlids are easy to break, it would probably take less than a week :)

I am in the same position with my ATF , it's frustrating but just stick at it

Yeah, I would just starve him until he takes the pellets. I had to starve my male jag 3 different times for about a week straight until he finally gave in and took the NLS pellets that I had got for him. Don't offer him anything for 2 days, on the 3rd day drop him a few pellets, if he doesn't eat them then don't offer him anymore and wait another couple of days... keep doing that until he gives in. Now my male Jag takes anything I offer him, mainly NLS and Omega1 pellets with an occasional omega1 veggie wafer. Once he realizes u aren't going to give in with the feeders, he'll take the pellets.

Thanks Jrt. I'll do that since it's been 3 days. I did offer him Hikari pellet and he did take it for the first time tonight but spit it back out 4sec later. So I'll wait another 2 days before I him some. He'll be watching my female jag gobble them all up. Thanks for the advice.
