I have some cichlids and some catfish that are getting a bit big for bloodworms and other things that provide a lot of vitamins. Right now the one thing I can fill them up with is shrimp. I was wondering what is a good way to get more vitamins and other essentials in heir diet? How do you guys vary the diet of some larger cichlids when they have outgrown bloodworms and other smaller food?

I give my fish a mixture of different foods from frozen food, pellets, and flakes.

Somewhere is a link to a site that gives some recipes to making your own frozen foods if you don't feel like always buying them.

i feed the super worms and meal worms with hikari pellets and feed them to the fish

+1

I do the same as above, has worked out really well and that way my fish never get dependent on one single type of food.

Also just make sure to get a high quality food - it might cost more but it'll save you alot having healthy fish!

I mostly just try to keep their diet varied. Right now I mostly feed them a mix of NLS pellets, Ken's Tropical Flakes, Ken's Earthworm Sticks, Ken's Meat Wafers, Ken's Spirulina Wafers, and O.S.I. Shrimp Pellets.

Just last week I bought a vitamen supplement to soak the food in, Seachem Vitality (I meant to buy Seachem's Nourish (for freshwater fish). Apparently the marine formula is ok to use on freshwater fish, so I've used it a few times now. Probably won't be able to tell if its doing anything, but I have to think it helps.

^ I actually remember reading something similar to that in another thread.

I can't remember it exactly - I think it was someone was feeding marine food or something. Think it had to do with higher protein or something...
