Best way to keep cichlids fed during a 2 week vacation?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
mayb have family members feed them for u and u give them a list on how to do it wht they get when

Automatic fish feeder, get a cool one that can be programed and you will be good.

What size are they? If they are full adults and doing well you don't really need to feed them. That said I do like the eheim auto feeder, and if you have a huge tank think about getting a feeder like the super feed

(Remember female fish will go for at least a month without feeding with no ill effects, and the less you feed the fish when you are gone the better the water quality will stay.)

We usually get a pet sitter. They are very reasonable and will do EXACTLY what you say. They will even call if they think somethings awry. I think we pay like 10 bucks a visit for 2 cats, a bazillion fish, a pool chem treatment, watering the garden and picking the ready veggies and bringing in the mail. WELL worth the piece of mind. Look in the phone book or call a local vet / trusted pet store for references.

honestly if they are healthy adult fish i usually rather not leave anyone in charge of feeding, no one can really fed like i can and if someone over feeds it can cause problems in the water. If you do leave someone in chrage mke sure you leave a detailed list. I went as far once as getting measuring tsp and tablespoon things and calculated exactly which one would be exact per day and then left the person that measuring spoon. And a detailed list of how many wafers exactly, when to feed. i mean the works!

the automatic feeders work well but i agree with the pet sitter idea. As long as you have good references and believe you can trust em then that may not be a bad idea.

I leave bags for individual feedings, usually only 1x/day while on vacation, that way all the person watching the fish has to do is dump a bag of food. Never had a problem this way.

I don't trust anyone to feed my fish correctly or have access to my house for extended periods of time if I'm away. My fish just fast while I'm gone...........lucky for them I never go anywhere these days.
