Hawaii
my water temp is 84 F above safe zone i think thats why my fish is acting strange. before summer started it was in safe zone now it aint. i live here in hawaii, i have no air conditioner and no direct sunlight is going on it. what can i do without buying something expensive i cant take off the glass canopy because i have a arowana and he WILL jump

Point a fan at the surface of your tank water. This will cause your evaporation rate to greatly increase... but when the water evaporates it will suck a lot of heat out of the remaining water. You will have to fill your tank more often but it should get you back into your "safe zone"

I have used a fan also. A little brushless computer fan works good and doesnt use much elect.

Edit- my 3 black aro's, clown loaches,bn plecos, gold nugget plecos, tinfoil barbs, and chocolate cichlids are at 84 and have been for some time. as water gets warmer it will hold less O2 you might try adding an air stone.

84* is not horrible depending on what type of fish you have. Freeze water bottles and float them in the tank.

Chillers are the most effective with the most range but they are ridiculously expensive. I battle heat with a combo of fans and airstones. I can usually bring my tank down about 3 degrees with them alone.

I just lower the water level and let the filter output aerate the surface...usually helps lower the temp.
