my arowana, oscar, and pacus have all grown a lot in the past two months, and i have no clue how long they are in inches. ive tried holding up a tape measurer to the tank to measure them, but this is nearly impossible because they keep moving and arent right next to the glass.
how do you guys measure your fish?
do you take them out of the water or catch them in a net and hold them to the glass? or just take a wild guess? or is there something to it that im just not seeing?

thanks

Personally I will not subject my fish to any undue stress associated to measuring just because I want to know how big they are. I just guesstimate.

+1 only time I get a true measurement is when they die. Last fish I measured was one of my Columbian Sharks that died a couple weeks ago he was 14 inchs long 8 inchs around with a head six inchs round.

I take a FTS, with a ruler on the front glass to serve as a way of measurement.
Then I use MS Paint to cut the ruler and move it to the fish and see how long it is

Depending on the fish I usually guestimate but if I need a precise measurement I lay out a wet towel and lay a yard stick it, then quickly net the fish and hold it down on the towel to get a quick measurement and drop it back in
