I am moving on december the 1st, I have had some pretty bad luck moving tanks in the past. I have a 100 gallon bow front tank with 25+ africans, 2 29gallon tanks are coming also. only one has water in it right now. its just for breeding guppies for food. and then theres a lil red devil in a 20 and some juvenile aulonocara in another 20G btw the bowfront has an eheim pro 2 big filter on it if this helps. I was thinking of trying to bring 40-50 gallons of tank water to the new house. throwing it in the 100gallon tank, adding another 40 or 50 gallons of new water and just hooking up the eheim with all its bacteria it holds. would this work? for the big tank? and whats the best way to move so many damn fish? I dont care about the guppies btw I was thinking of using 2 temporary tanks, one for the red devil and the other for the africans. hopefully if I can put the africans somewhere in the dark, they will sleep for a while, while I set up...? damn I'm nervous

first and for most how far are you traveling with this move? Personally I would invest in about 5 or 6 large garbage cans and bring more then half the water, while transporting the water seperate the fish amongst the differnt cans which you can use to house the fish while setting up the tank, make sure you keep one can free of fish so that you can empty one full then add fish from another can before emptying the water back into the tank, and repeat until you are all out of water then just top off the rest with fresh water. Fresh water can stress fish that are all ready stressed and kill them. The least amount of stress is by doing only a small water change.
Hope that helps. Longer trips invest in battery powered air stones.

PS where in toronto are you living? I actually move tanks as part of my company..

I am moving 2 different houses in one house on december 1st but theyre both less than 10 minute drive from the receiving house. I think I figured somthing out, I have one house till the end on dec so I'm gonna move the fish to my 3 29's in that house, while I transport water and tanks to the new house, once in. I drop the water and start up the filters and than go back for the fish. seems good so far

get rubbermaid containers empty all your substrate decorations etc in one. fill another with tank water add fish to those. if you got canister filters leave the media in em. move the tanks empty. its a pain in the neck but should go smooth if ou prepare. I did this not too long ago with np at all.

you can even hook your filters up to the rubbermaid once you move and wait a day or so to setup the tank if your too busy

drain half the tank and move all of your stuff down then just get two or three people and slide the tank keep it set up until your other tank is ready then out the fish in slowly down put them all in at once youll kill your fish

ooh nevermind because i thought you were just switching tanks sorry

yeha i had several rubbermaid storage totes with lids. we syphon with a garden house from the tanks to the rubbermaids in the back of the f150. then netted and moved the fishes. then put lids on them and used ratchet straps to hold the lids on (those things were bowed alot lol). i had a dc/ac inverter so i used my regular bubble makers for air. they made the 3 hr drive no problem. the larger 2 pacus and oscar even stayed in the truck over night (it was summer so temp wasnt an issue). and yes we siphoned the water back into the tanks.

All I can say is Good Luck!!! When moving my 29g and 75g to my new apartment it was a pain! I had 1 person help move my 75g, and I did the rest!

True true, just alot of work. Best of luck!
