Best way to paint around an aquarium?

Just putting it out there that I'm HORRIBLE at DIY and that's why I'm asking you guys the best way to do this.

Well I'm picking this tank up tomorrow, it's a 5x2x2, my second 150. But I hate the oak wood look. I want to maybe paint it black or something. Any suggestions would be appreciated!

Oh and it's only 200$ for tank/lid/stand, I'm pretty pumped about it.

If its full then cover the tank with plastic bags or tarp and just paint the stand. If its real wood your gunna have to sand it atleast a little. The more prep work you put in the paint job the better it will come out
