What is the best way to transfer it? I am moving into my fist apartment tomorrow and im not sure how to safely transfer him. I only have one tank. So I have to take him out and put him somewhere while I set up the tank at the new place. Im not sure if its a good idea to put him in the water as soon as I get the tank set up, I dont want to cause shock. So whats a good place to put him while the water cycles through at the new place for a while?

Either a large ice chest or a large rubbermaid container to transport the jar. Then use a pillow case to catch your jar and move him into the ice chest or rubbermaid. Try to keep as much of the water from the original tank as possible and the beneficial bacteria which will help to cycle your tank at your new place. Try to keep your filter media too, so then your filter will be already cycled.

how big is he? just make sure theres enough room for him to stay for a while...rig the filter to the side of the chest or rubermade container and put a fair amount of aeration he should be fine for a while ...just make sure if the lid is off or open you cover it with some sort of netting ...

"A while" being a few hours...not long enough for the tank to cycle, which could take days...

Keep the filter media wet, and move at least half the water in garbage cans...
