Im building a plywood pond for my rtc measuring 8 by 8 by 3 deep. I've been looking at pond liner and see that one to fit this would be about 150bucks. I've had liners rip on my before but if this is the cheapest than ill go with it. The surface area of the interior is about 160ft square. My question is would a paint on water proofing system work better and if so what kind and about how much would it cost, I've been looking on the home depot site and lowes and haven't been able to find any paint on coatings. Any advice?

15 by 15 is cutting it close i was thinking 16 by 16 so i can run the pond liner under a 1x4 around the rim.... i wasnt planning on having a viewing window, just an open top. and at home depot the cheapest deal is the 18x24 20mil pond liner. its about 150$ anybody know where i can get a better deal?

search it, ive seen some cheaper websites.

Ya, that is why I said at least 15'x15'. I would not go any thinner than 40mil. Personally I would prefer something around 60mil. I would search the web, that size at 20mil is not a deal.

ok glad for the info, what would you guys say about double layering it to ensure against rips and tears. can anyone give me quotes on epoxies or anything else i could use instead of a pond liner and how much they may cost.

For that price it might be worth trying out the Wetsuit waterproofer from Neptune coatings that's been brought up in some recent threads. It looks like an interesting product, and with no need for windows (unless you plan on putting them in) it would make for a very easy project to waterproof...

no no windows planned... iv been thinking about the wetsuit stuff i just dont want it to leak and end up with water everywhere
