Best Ways to reduce power consuption?

There are led light setups cheap on ebay. You can leave the lights off if youre not looking at the fish, the ambient room light is plenty for the fish, unless youre growing plants.
The minimum wpg of the heaters depends on the temp of the room. You could see whats the minimum temps your fish will do well at and set the heaters there.Putting a smaller heater in isnt going to save you money if it has to work harder to keep the temp up.

think I may try one LED on a small tank just to test it out. And I guess I'll just get a few timers and set the lights to only be on during the evening when I can enjoy them and set the UVs to just be on Sat-Sun. Not much else I can do I suppose?

The wife seems to think it bumped the electric bill up $500 a month. Would be nice to not spend that $$ and save alittle.

it is probably your air conditioner. fish tanks use less electricity in the summer since the heaters don't work much.... unless you run the ac to cool the room and then have to heat the tank up from a colder temp

maybe even upgrade to a more efficient filtration system that uses less electricity like a wet/dry...

exactly. A/C uses much more power than fish tanks. set your A/C at 75*, instead of 68*, you'll save money on your A/C and on your aquarium heaters.

I'd recomend putting the lights on a timer, so they're only on when you're home but not sleeping.

nice wet dry pumps use much more watts than a canister or powerfilter
