I purchased a 175 gallon water storgage tank off craigslist. It was used once to hold olive oil...What is best to use to clean and make water safe? Has anybody ever used these???
Thanks in advance for any help!

wow, that's alot of olive oil! maybe try to email the container or oil manufacturer, white vinegar can be used for many types of cleaning, not sure in this case.would it possible to put a liner in it?

I got a 140 gallon water storage tank that was glass lined from a factory. It was like brand new and had been used for a boiler storage tank for a couple months. I just filled it with bleach water and let it soak, then flowed alot of tap water through it to rinse out the bleach. But you will need some sort of cutting agent to get rid of all the oil..I did some searching on google, and found this.

Quote from the web site

"In the olive oil industry we use bases such as baking soda to clean metal surfaces. It is non-toxic and does not impart flavors. It saponifies the acids in the oil, turning it into soap. Lye would also do this. It is a bit trickier to use but does not leave any residue or flavors on the equipment."
